ESN Middle-Rhine-Valley Hike

What, another hike? Yes! And this is going to be a special one! We'll take the train to the heart of the middle Rhine valley and explore the UNESCO world heritage by foot and ferry!

We'll take the train to Kaub and cross the Rhine for a first time passing a first castle, Pfalzgrafenstein, which is located on an island in the middle of the Rhine. From there it takes us up to Schönburg on top of the medival town of Oberwesel. We'll follow the historic outer city wall and walk up the vineyards passing the views at Günderrodehaus and Büttenplatz, where we will take a longer break. From there we'll stay on top of the valley until we reach Maria Ruh, where we'll have the best view on the famous rock of Loreley. Our last station is st.goar, just a small descent away from Maria Ruh, where we'll take the second ferry back to the other side of the Rhine. Frome the ferry we'll see the castles Katz and Maus as well as the huge castle ruin of Rheinfels. Having reached St. Goarshausen we might search for a nice restaurant or start our way back to Darmstadt.
