Dear internationals,
Time to witness another Bavarian tradition: The Schäfflertanz dates back to the 16th century, when barrel-makers danced through Munich’s streets to lift people’s spirits after a devastating plague. It was such a hit that it became a tradition living on to this day! Since 1760, the Schäfflertanz is performed every 7 years – and lucky us, 2026 is the year!
🤔 WHAT DOES THE EVENT LOOK LIKE?
We’ll meet at 1:30 pm at the "Fischbrunnen" in Marienplatz (easy to find, it is the fountain with a fish sculpture on top). There, we’ll watch the dancers with their colorful costumes.
🎒 WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Warm clothes – it’s January and we’ll be outside!
Camera or phone – you’ll want pics of this one.
Curiosity and good vibes
⚠️🌧️ IN CASE OF RAIN OR SNOW?
Unless the weather is so bad that the dance is cancelled, we'll be there!
Can't come? There will be performances from 6.1. - 17.2. in various public places in Munich, you can find more info on that online.
With lots of love,
your MESA team!
