ESN Excursion: Cochem
Uncork the splendours of Romanticism and wine this Saturday at Cochem!
The medieval town of Cochem, first documented in 866 as Villa Cuchema, sits on the banks of the lower Mosel River, surrounded by vineyards and rolling green hills. The Romans recognised in this beautiful speck a perfect wine-growing region, and these vinous pursuits are still kept alive by the many family-run wineries in modern day Cochem. 🍷🍇
High above colourful half-timbered houses, the sentry-like Reichsburg Castle towers, and inspires the imagination with images of knights and noblewomen.
Later on, the medieval fantasy continues as we stop at Eltz Castle, mystically isolated by dense forests. The castle has never been destroyed in it’s 800+ year history. You’ve probably seen it on instagram, where it’s often featured as one of the most beautiful castles in Germany. 🏰
In short: Wine, castles and half-timbered houses.
