ESN Excursion: Limburg an der Lahn
Join us this Sunday (26th of November) in Limburg - a real hidden gem,and one of the oldest towns in Germany. Limburg is defined by its cobbled, narrow streets and its incredible medieval half-timbered houses (13th century) that look as if they could collapse without warning. The crown jewels of Limburg are the “Römer 2,4,6 “ , which is the oldest free-standing unaltered building in Germany (1289) and the “House of the Seven Deadly Sins” which has 7 grotesque faces carved into its wall.
In addition to the numerous old buildings of great significance, Limburg has an iconic cathedral ,perched on a rock overlooking the town. The cathedral is considered one of the most remarkable examples of late Romanesque architecture and it is covered with frescoes dating back to the 1200s. Does Limburg have a castle? Absolutely! Constructed in the 800s and located at the rear of the cathedral, the castle adds to the stunning scenic view of the cathedral.
Let’s discover Limburg together!
