Excursion: Bamberg
Join us this Saturday, the 6th of April, as we sally over to Bavaria to visit Bamberg.
Studding the upper end of Franconia, north of Bavaria, Bamberg has one of the best preserved medieval centers in Germany, with an entire millennium of history spilling into its streets and timber-frame houses, sliced through by the idyllic river Regnitz and surrounded by seven hills, each crowned with their own castle or church. Come explore the UNESCO listed old town, with buildings initially intended to rival Rome’s.
Try some smoke beer, a 600 year old beer brewing tradition preserved by some breweries in Bamberg, where the malt is dried over an open flame, giving the beer a distinctive smoky flavour.
For the more adventurous among you, maybe even try a minced meat stuffed onion.
Note: We have a lunch reservation at Schlenkerla, one of the oldest breweries in Bamberg. Please notify me if you get a ticket but don’t want to eat there.
Bamberg was last semester's favourite excursion!
Departure: 09:01 from platform 5, Frankfurt Central Station. Try to be there 10 to 15min earlier.
We will be taking the train back at 6 and arriving in Frankfurt by 9
