The Gasometer is an old industrial facility that is now used as an unique exhibition venue. It is one of the most popular landmarks in the metropol region "Rhein-Ruhr" representing both the industrial heritage, but also the ongoing transformation to a knowledge based economy.

At the Gasometer we will visit the current exhibition “Planet Ocean”. It will present the fascinating beauty of the world's oceans and their diverse life forms. The innovative show will take visitors to the largely unknown depths of this complex ecosystem with the help of large-format photographs and films, some never publicly seen before. Consequently, "Planet Ocean" also deals with the important areas of marine protection and research.

Additionaly on top of the gasometer there is a observation deck available to the public. From up there you can enjoy a unique panoramic view of the whole region, during clear weather, extending over 35 kilometres: from the steelworks on the Rhine as far as the stadium of the Schalke football club.
